The Entomological Play transforms a person into a wood louse. Impervious surfaces trap
invertebrates like these underground and deny them nourishment in the form of leaf litter.
Covering soil with sealing layers makes sense only on very few levels. It is not beneficial to human health and even less so for soil health or invertebrate flourishing.
Before a real mindset shift can take place regarding how we view our road networks,
parking lots, but also concrete walkways and other manmade ground coverings, an awareness needs to be created for the many lives that suffer
from this: invertebrates, bacteria and fungi to
name a few.
Embodying the actors of those lives, specifically the wood louse, can be a very potent way of
evoking a shift of attitude. By creating a parallel to human experience intraspecies empathy can
become interspecies empathy.
